Students today are disengaged with education because too many academic institutions are unwilling to replace an outdated system of education. There is not a lack of knowledge available, in fact there are limitless resources. However, students today are finding the readings assigned to them, the lectures imposed upon them, and the relationship with their educators lacking relevance to their lives. Wesch describes how people are engaged in doing great things through the employment of technology when they are able to connect it to their own lives. Extraordinary accomplishments are possible when people are given the tools to carry them forth. Young people today need to be empowered, empowered with the tools that are relevant to their own lives. Students should be encouraged in their educational institutions to use the resources with which they interact on a daily basis. Students are for the most part continuously connected to the internet through some sort of device. Educators should give students the tools to use those relevant tools in their quest for more education.
